Philippe Graffin and the Consonances Festival of St Nazaire co-commissioned a violin concerto from the renowned and popular Lithuanian composer, Vytatuas Barkauskas. The concerto was written first for a chamber group and performed by Graffin in
St Nazaire in September 2002. On 31st January and 1st February 2003 he gave the World Première of the full orchestra version in Kaunas (birthplace of Barkauskas) and Vilnius with the Lithuanian National Philharmonic.
Graffin also performed the Partita written by Barkauskas with which Gidon Kremer became closely associated.
BARKAUSKAS - Duo Concertante
Following the success of 'Jeux' Barkauskas wrote a concerto for violin and viola , Duo Concertante, for Philippe Graffin and Nobuko Imai and they gave the world premiere at the 2004 Vilnius Festival. At Graffin's suggestion, Barkauskas dedicated the work to Chiune Sugihara, the Japanese diplomat who in 1940 risked his life to save thousands of Jews from the Holocaust by issuing transit visas from his consulate in Kaunas, Lithuania.

SHCHEDRIN - Concerto Cantabile
In November 2001 Philippe Graffin was invited by the Lithuanian National Philharmonic to perform the Concerto Cantabile for violin and orchestra by Rodion Shchedrin.
The performance was attended by Shchedrin and conducted by Mstislav Rostropovich. Following the success of this performance Graffin was invited to perform the same piece in Moscow on 16th December 2002, the 70th birthday of Shchedrin. The concert was streamed on the internet with live tele-bridge to New York.
Philippe also performed the work with the St Petersburg Philharmonic in December 2005.
SHCHEDRIN - Concerto Parlando
Philippe Graffin and the Consonances Festival gave their 2004 festival the theme: "Hommage à Rodion Shchedrin", invited Shchedrin to be composer-in-residence and commissioned a new concerto for violin, trumpet and string orchestra. Concerto parlando was premiered by Graffin & Martin Hurrel (trumpet) and the Chamber Orchestra Kremlin during the festival.
Graffin will perform the Concerto Parlando in Vilnius, Lithuania in November 2006 as part of a Shchedrin Festival.
